MRT Jakarta starts accepting contactless credit card taps at gates
Riders can now tap in and tap out with Visa or Mastercard cards, without topping up an electronic money card balance.
The Jakarta provincial government and PT MRT Jakarta have begun using contactless credit card payments on MRT Jakarta services. The EMV Contactless system was launched by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Bundaran HI Bank Jakarta Station on Wednesday (29/7), and was described as the first use of a credit card for public transportation in Indonesia. Passengers can tap in and tap out directly at the gate using cards bearing the Visa or Mastercard logo, without needing to top up an electronic money card balance. The provincial government said the feature will make travel easier for residents and tourists, as Jakarta aims to become a global city with transport services that are more modern, integrated and inclusive.
