Mitchell Baker becomes Indonesian citizen, enters national team plan

Next, the 19-year-old striker is projected to add attacking options for John Herdman's squad at the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026.

Young striker Mitchell Lee Baker officially became an Indonesian citizen after taking the oath at the Directorate General of General Legal Administration office of the Ministry of Law, Jakarta, on Monday (13/7/2026). The ceremony was led by AHU Director General Widodo and attended by PSSI chairman Erick Thohir and National Team Board chairman Sumardji. PSSI has included Baker's naturalization in its strategy to deepen the Indonesia national team squad. Erick said the 19-year-old will provide another option up front in coach John Herdman's plans for the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026. Baker was born in Melbourne on 11 December 2006 and has Indonesian heritage through his mother, Maureen Lee Baker, who is from Yogyakarta and Semarang. He previously played for Hong Kong Football Club, Northcote City, Melbourne Victory, Black Rock FC, and Georgetown University, before being selected by Colorado Rapids in the MLS SuperDraft 2026.
