Michigan Democrat Haley Stevens backs GOP's Mike Rogers in Senate race

Why it matters: The break with Abdul El-Sayed exposed party divisions in a close race just two days before voting.

U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, a Michigan Democrat who lost her party's Senate nomination, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers on Sunday in a sharp break days before the election. Stevens appeared with Rogers after saying she did not belong in Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed's campaign and accusing him of pushing a message she said did not reflect Michigan voters. The clash intensified after Stevens demanded that El-Sayed denounce an outside liberal group's ad linking U.S. support for Israel to high prices. El-Sayed said he criticized the ad and had no role in it. Stevens had been expected to join him at a unity event but instead attended a church service with Rogers in Detroit.
