MHU turns former mine pond into clean water for 582 families
The Sungai Payang facility is jointly run with BUMDes, with a 3.6-kilometer network and a WTP capacity of 126 cubic meters.
PT Multi Harapan Utama is using a post-mining pond in Desa Sungai Payang, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, as a source of clean water for 582 households. The facility uses three hydram pumps that harness the kinetic energy of water, two hydropur units, and a Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 126 cubic meters, allowing it to operate without electricity or fuel. Its distribution network extends more than 3.6 kilometers to three hamlets: Donomulyo, Sentuk, and Rempanga. Management involves BUMDes Payang Sejahtera. MHU said the scheme is part of its Community Development and Empowerment Program so post-mining assets continue to provide economic benefits and basic services for residents.
