Mexico became the first team to secure a place in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup after beating Korea Selatan 1-0 in Group A on Friday morning WIB. Luis Romo’s lone goal in the 50th minute was enough to deliver the host its second straight win, after a 2-0 victory over Afrika Selatan. The result left Javier Aguirre’s squad with six points from two matches and beyond the reach of Korea Selatan in head-to-head play. Korea Selatan remained second with three points, while Ceko and Afrika Selatan have one point each. Mexico still has one group match left and could finish the opening stage with a perfect record in the tournament being held in Mexico, Canada and the United States.
