Messi writes eulogy for his father, raises career doubts

In an Instagram post, Messi remembered Jorge as a father, friend and agent who stood by him from the start of his career. He also linked the loss to the 2026 World Cup, a tournament he said he wanted to play for his father. Messi wrote that Jorge kept asking him to play in one last World Cup, but his condition worsened before the tournament and he did not live to see the final. Argentina did not win the title, and Messi said he was not fully fit throughout the tournament. In the eulogy, the Argentina captain also hinted at uncertainty about his future. “I have so many doubts about what I will keep doing,” he wrote.
