Egypt finds remains of 2,500-year-old temple in Bahariya Oasis

Egyptian archaeologists have found the remains of a temple dating back about 2,500 years at Al-Qasr Al-Qadim Temple in Bahariya Oasis, in Egypt's Western Desert. Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said the discovery includes sandstone chambers, stone blocks inscribed with the name and title of King Psamtik I, and several other artifacts from the 26th Dynasty. At the same site, the team also uncovered the main hypostyle hall supported by 16 sandstone columns, a number of rooms and sanctuaries, and hieroglyphic texts mentioning Amun-Ra, Amunet and Khonsu. According to the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, inscriptions from the time of Amenhotep II and artifacts from the Ramesses II era show the area had long served as an important religious, urban and administrative center well before the 26th Dynasty.
