Polkam minister gathers security chiefs after August hoax

Polkam Minister Djamari Chaniago gathered TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, BIN head M Herindra, and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin at the Kemenko Polkam office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026) amid hoaxes about a mass demonstration and security threats. After the meeting, Djamari said the domestic situation, especially in Jakarta, remained under control and public activity continued as usual. He also pointed to social media content containing disinformation, slander and hate speech that could stir public concern. Some posts even used old protest videos with provocative narratives about an “August protest” and riots. The government said it will keep monitoring the situation and urged the public to check sources before believing or sharing information.
