McConnell says fall, pneumonia led to 4-week hospital stay

What's new: The 84-year-old said tests found no stroke, heart attack, concussion, tumors or hemorrhages, and he is now in rehab.

Sen. Mitch McConnell disclosed Sunday that a fall left him briefly unconscious and led to the hospitalization that kept him out of public view for nearly four weeks. The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican said he was also treated for mild pneumonia and has since been moved to a rehabilitation facility. McConnell said doctors found no broken bones, concussion, heart attack, stroke, tumors or hemorrhages, addressing speculation that had grown during his silence since June 14. He said he is regaining strength but cannot return to the Senate yet and plans to finish his term. His absence, after the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, temporarily narrows Republicans' Senate majority to 51-47.
