Mastel urges global OTT platforms to fund Indonesia's digital network
The proposal points to a fair-share model so network investment does not keep falling on telecom operators alone.
Masyarakat Telematika Indonesia (Mastel) is urging global digital platforms, or over the top (OTT), to contribute to the development of Indonesia's national digital infrastructure. Mastel Chairman Sarwoto Atmosutarno said digital economic growth needs to be matched by a more equal تقسیم of roles across the ecosystem. He said demand for digital infrastructure investment keeps rising, but most of the burden has so far been carried by the telecommunications industry. Because OTT services use telecom networks, Mastel said they should take part in sustaining Indonesia's digital development. Mastel also backed Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid's idea of keeping digital economic value in the country, including through a fair share scheme between global platforms and national digital infrastructure providers.
