Masan mine expansion in Vietnam could add 115 million tonnes of tungsten ore

Why it matters: The added resource could extend Nui Phao operations by 20 to 30 years as buyers seek supply outside China.

Masan High-Tech Materials said progress around its Nui Phao mine in northern Vietnam could add about 115 million tonnes of tungsten-polymetallic ore, potentially extending the site’s life by 20 to 30 years. The company said the resource base includes roughly 55.19 million tonnes at the Nui Phao Expansion area and 60 million tonnes at Nui Chiem in Thai Nguyen province. Masan plans to lift tungsten oxide capacity to more than 8,000 tonnes using existing mining and processing infrastructure. The move comes as manufacturers look for non-China supply after Chinese export restrictions began last year. Masan, whose clients include Honeywell and Mitsubishi, also plans a main-board listing on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange in 2027.
