Maresca starts Rodri rebuild after Barcelona’s £65m City deal
What's next: City have about 10 days left in the transfer window and are weighing midfield moves after Rodri left on a four-year contract.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca is moving quickly to reshape his midfield after Rodri left for Barcelona in a deal worth about £65 million. Maresca framed the exit as part of the club’s cycle of replacing star players, pointing to past handoffs from David Silva to Kevin De Bruyne and from Fernandinho to Rodri. Rodri, 30, spent seven seasons at City, won four Premier League titles and scored the winner in the 2023 Champions League final. BBC reported he signed a four-year contract with Barcelona after entering the last year of his City deal. Maresca also said City do not want to keep players who want to leave as the club prepares for its Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
