Former Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu died at 76 at RSPAD Gatot Subroto in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 May 2026, at 14.03 WIB. The death was confirmed by the head of the Defense Ministry's information bureau, Brig. Gen. Rico Ricardo Sirait. Ryamizard served as Defense Minister during President Joko Widodo's first term, from 2014-2019. Before that, he rose through the military ranks to become Army chief from 2002-2005 under President Megawati Soekarnoputri. Born in Palembang on 21 April 1950, Ryamizard was a graduate of AKABRI Darat. Tempo reported that his body would be taken to the funeral home in Cikeas, Bogor.
