Former Navy chief Achmad Sutjipto dies in Jakarta at 81

His body will lie in state in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, before burial at TMP Kalibata on Thursday.

Former Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Adm. (Ret.) Achmad Sutjipto died on Thursday (18/6) in Jakarta at age 81. Antara reported that he died at Medistra Hospital in South Jakarta. His body will lie in state at his home on Jalan Gading 10 Blok D Nomor 45 Kodamar, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, before burial at Taman Makam Pahlawan Kalibata. Sutjipto was born on 12 May 1945, entered the Naval Academy in 1965 and graduated in 1969. During his career in the Navy, he commanded several warships, led the task force for the transfer of former East German ships, and rose through fleet command ranks before becoming Navy chief.
