Man City reject Barcelona’s £38.5m opening bid for Rodri

What’s next: City want more than £60m, while Barcelona keep negotiating after Rodri entered the final year of his deal.

Manchester City rejected Barcelona’s opening £38.5 million offer for Rodri, with the Premier League club seeking more than £60 million to sell the midfielder. Barcelona have moved to the front of the race for the 30-year-old after talks with Real Madrid ended this week. Both reports said Rodri is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad and has not signed an extension. The Spain international missed much of the 2024-25 season with knee and hamstring problems and recently had minor back surgery, but he returned to form at the World Cup, where he helped Spain win the title and was named player of the tournament.
