Man charged after ex-UK minister Ann Widdecombe was killed in home attack

What's new: Prosecutors told court the attacker hit Widdecombe 21 times with a hammer and took her wallet after entering her Devon home.

British prosecutors charged 28-year-old Joshua Kerry with murdering former minister and ex-lawmaker Ann Widdecombe after what police have described as a targeted attack at her home in Devon. At a London court on July 21, prosecutors said Widdecombe, 78, was struck 21 times on the head with a hammer on July 8. They said footage from a camera inside the house showed a man entering while she ate lunch, asking for bank cards and ID, then assaulting her and leaving with her wallet. Police arrested Kerry in South Yorkshire on July 11. He has not been charged with terrorism offenses, but counterterrorism officers are investigating whether there was a political or terrorist motive.
