Malaysia urges Waze users to switch apps over data security fears

What's new: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pointed users to the highway authority's Tuju app after a cyber security review.

Malaysia's prime minister urged people to stop using Waze, citing concerns that the Israel-developed navigation app could expose Malaysians' data. After chairing a National Cyber Security Committee meeting, Anwar Ibrahim wrote on Facebook that Waze is subject to Israeli law and could pose risks to data and identity security. He encouraged users to move to Tuju, a navigation app developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority. The meeting also reviewed broader cyber threats, including the security of MyDigital ID, Malaysia's digital identity platform, and emerging risks from autonomous artificial intelligence. Google acquired Waze for $1 billion in 2013.
