Malaysia delays ex-PM Ismail Sabri graft hearing to Aug. 27

A Malaysian court postponed graft proceedings against former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to Aug. 27 after he was hospitalized in Kuala Lumpur. Ismail, 66, had been due to face charges Friday at the Sessions Court, but Judge Suzana Hussin granted a defense request to delay the hearing after his admission to the National Heart Institute. Prosecutors did not object. Local reports said the case is tied to asset declarations under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act. Ismail, who led Malaysia from August 2021 to November 2022, is also under investigation over alleged corruption and money laundering linked to government promotional spending during his administration.
