The Oct. 27-Nov. 1, 2026 conference will gather hundreds of music figures to discuss the national ecosystem and eastern region potential.
Makassar has been chosen to host the 2026 Konferensi Musik Indonesia (KMI), which will run from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, 2026. Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin said the national event could drive a new economic boost by drawing hundreds of musicians, thinkers, industry players and policymakers from across the country. KMI 2026 is being held by Kementerian Kebudayaan together with Indonesia World Music Series under the theme "Gerak Seirama". The agenda will focus on strengthening the national music ecosystem, including developing the potential of music from eastern Indonesia. The Makassar city government also views the forum as an opportunity to expand the stage for local music and creativity while keeping traditional music alive as a source of inspiration and economic opportunity.
