Macron blames AI-fueled disinformation for backlash over French riots
What's new: He said about 150 people have been jailed and more than 800 taken to court after violence in Paris, Lyon and Marseille.
French President Emmanuel Macron accused unnamed foreign leaders of exploiting France's recent riots for political gain and amplifying false claims spread by AI-generated videos. Speaking in Doha, he said there was no visible foreign role in the unrest itself but described a wave of manipulated information afterward, including claims that France had been overrun by migrants and Islamists. The remarks appeared aimed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump, both of whom tied the violence to immigration. The unrest erupted on the edges of cost-of-living and student protests and spread across Paris and other cities. Macron said roughly 150 people had been jailed and more than 800 brought before courts.
