M5.7 quake shakes southwest Sukabumi sea, no tsunami

BMKG put the epicenter 10 km deep and said shaking was felt in Surade, Cibitung and Tegalbuleud.

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake shook the sea southwest of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Sunday at 10:30 WIB. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said the quake had no tsunami potential. BMKG said the epicenter was in the sea, about 193 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi based on Antara's initial data, at a depth of 10 kilometers. CNN Indonesia quoted BMKG as saying the epicenter was 209 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi. According to BMKG analysis, the shallow quake was triggered by Indo-Australian Plate subduction activity with a reverse fault mechanism. The shaking was felt at level II MMI in Surade, Cibitung and Tegalbuleud. By 10:50 WIB, BMKG had not detected any aftershocks and there were no official reports of damage or casualties.
