A magnitude 5.3 quake shook the Sunda Strait on Wednesday at 02.44 WIB, as activity at Mount Anak Krakatau also increased with at least six eruptions the same day. BMKG recorded the epicenter 62 kilometers southwest of Sumur, Banten, and said the shallow quake was triggered by subduction activity and did not have tsunami potential. Meanwhile, PVMBG and Badan Geologi data showed Anak Krakatau repeatedly erupted from early morning until 11.47 WIB, with ash columns reaching 250 meters in the morning and 200 meters in the midday eruption. The ash was seen in gray to black colors and drifting northwest. The volcano's status remained Level III, or Siaga, with activity prohibited within a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater.
