Liverpool sold 30% stake for £1.65 billion to Bezos-led consortium

What's new: The deal values the club at about £5.5 billion, while Fenway Sports Group keeps control and says transfers are unaffected.

Fenway Sports Group agreed to sell a 30% stake in Liverpool to 1892 Holdings, a consortium led by Amit Bhatia that includes Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin. The transaction is worth about £1.65 billion and values the Premier League club at roughly £5.5 billion, according to reports from Britain. FSG said it will remain majority owner and keep operational control of Liverpool after the investment. Bhatia is expected to become vice-chairman and join an expanded board, while Bryan Baum and Elaine Saverin will also take board seats. Bezos, investing through K5 Sports, will not join the board. The deal still needs regulatory approval and, both outlets reported, will not change Liverpool's transfer budget or strategy this summer.
