Liverpool loan Ronald Araujo from Barcelona for one season
The deal includes a purchase option as Liverpool are short of senior center backs after Ibrahima Konate left.
Liverpool signed Uruguay defender Ronald Araujo from Barcelona on a one-season loan. The deal includes a purchase option and comes as Liverpool's back line thins ahead of the start of the season. After Ibrahima Konate moved to Real Madrid, Virgil van Dijk is the only fit senior center back, while Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Jérémy Jacquet remain sidelined by fitness issues or injury.
Araujo, 27, can play as a center back or right back. He joined Barcelona from Boston River in 2018, made more than 200 appearances, won three La Liga titles and two Copa del Reys, and finished last season as captain. His playing time, however, dropped under coach Hansi Flick. Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign with an away match at Newcastle United on 23 August.
