Liverpool add Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona for 2026-27

Liverpool completed a season-long loan move for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo on Monday, adding an option to buy the 27-year-old Uruguay international. The center back joins after Liverpool lost Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer to Real Madrid and with Joe Gomez, Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni still recovering from injuries. Araujo has made more than 200 appearances for Barcelona since arriving from Boston River in 2018, winning three La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies. His league minutes dipped last season under Hansi Flick, with Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi preferred in central defense. Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign away to Newcastle United on Aug. 23.
