Lincoln Reflecting Pool repair bill climbs past $16 million
What's new: A second no-bid contract added $1.74 million for an algae-killing system after the repaint job began peeling.
Repairs to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington are set to cost more than $16 million, far above the original estimate for a no-bid resurfacing contract, according to federal contract data reviewed by ABC News. Atlantic Industrial Coatings has received payments totaling $14.65 million for repainting work, more than $4 million above the initial projected cost. Earlier this year, the National Park Service also paid Ohio-based Green Water Solutions $1.74 million under a separate no-bid contract to install a nanobubble filtration system aimed at killing algae before Fourth of July events. The work has drawn scrutiny after the new coating appeared to peel and algae returned soon after the pool was refilled.
