Lawyer Bangun Paulus charged with extorting Rp300 million

The defense is set to file an objection on Aug. 19, while prosecutors prepare more than 10 witnesses and digital evidence.

The Central Jakarta District Court began hearing lawyer Bangun Paulus Tudungta in a case alleging extortion of young entrepreneur Vinson Leo Carlius on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026. Prosecutor Andri Saputra read an alternative indictment after the case was said to stem from a money dispute involving funds allegedly taken by Vinson. In the indictment, Bangun was said to have demanded money, with the amount changing from Rp500 million to Rp200 million and finally settling at Rp300 million, along with threats to report Vinson to police on suspicion of theft. The prosecutor also said Vinson was taken to the Benyamin Sueb area and a Cikampek toll road rest area, where he faced pressure and threats of physical violence. Prosecutors are preparing more than 10 witnesses, chat screenshots, recorded conversations and transfer records. The defense said the indictment remains unclear and plans to file an objection next week.
