Lawsuit seeks to stop UFC event on White House South Lawn

What's new: Plaintiffs argue the June 14 fight lacks legal approval, environmental review and permission for a large arch.

A federal lawsuit filed Saturday seeks to block a UFC fight card planned for June 14 on the White House South Lawn, an event timed to President Donald Trump's 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary. The Public Integrity Project, representing two Virginia residents, argues the administration broke National Park Service rules that bar sporting events on federal parkland. The suit also says Congress never approved a large arch planned over the venue and that officials skipped environmental review before construction began. Crews are already building an octagon-style cage on the South Lawn. Trump has said the site will hold 5,000 people, with screens at the Ellipse and up to 85,000 free tickets.
