Lawsuit accuses US of giving Iran asylum data on detainees

What's next: The suit seeks a court monitor and an order blocking any further disclosures to Iranian officials.

A lawsuit filed in federal court in Washington accuses the Trump administration of illegally sharing confidential information about Iranian asylum seekers with Iran's government. The complaint, brought by the Iranian American Legal Defense Fund and Public Citizen Litigation Group, says U.S. officials began monthly meetings with Iranian officials in 2025 through the Pakistani embassy and passed along sensitive details from immigration files. It says some detainees were then forced to meet an Iranian official who appeared to know specifics of their asylum claims. The Department of Homeland Security denied the allegations, calling them false, and said ICE informs migrants of their right to contact consular representatives.
