LAPD releases video of officer fatally shooting dog at LA apartment
What’s next: Police said the shooting will be reviewed by investigators, then sent to the civilian police commission for a ruling.
Los Angeles police released body camera footage showing an officer fatally shooting a woman’s dog during a June 13 wellness check at an apartment, an episode that has drawn broad backlash and renewed scrutiny of police force. The video shows officers responding after a neighbor reported hearing a woman scream “Oh, my God” repeatedly for about 20 minutes. When the resident opened the door, her two-year-old golden saint berdoodle, Jameson, barked at officers. After she briefly closed the door, the dog emerged again and ran toward one officer, who backed away and fired four shots. Police later said the dog died and the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services took custody of the body.
