Landslide in Lumajang kills father and son before dawn
Residents could enter only after the rain eased, thick fog lifted and a blackout no longer blocked evacuation efforts.
A landslide hit the home of Imron Rosadi in Tamanayu village, Pronojiwo district, Lumajang regency, East Java, killing Imron (40) and his son Hilya (9) early Saturday. BPBD Lumajang recorded moderate to heavy rain over the area from Friday afternoon until Saturday morning. The landslide was reported around 02.10 WIB, but residents did not dare approach because rain was still heavy, thick fog covered the area and the electricity was out. After the weather eased around 04.30 WIB, residents found both victims dead, buried under debris. Evacuation was then carried out with officers and village officials. The landslide also damaged the kitchen, bathroom, rear bedroom and storage room of the victim's house. BPBD estimated the landslide point at 8 meters long and 10 meters high.
