Kyle Kirkwood won the Freedom 250 Grand Prix on Sunday after President Donald Trump opened Washington’s first IndyCar street race by taking an honorary lap in the presidential limousine and waving the green flag. The 402-kilometer race ran through downtown streets near the National Mall, the U.S. Capitol and Pennsylvania Avenue, with cars reaching speeds near 200 mph. Officials expected roughly 200,000 spectators, and general-admission tickets were free, while private trackside club passes sold for $5,000. The race capped a summer of events tied to the United States’ 250th anniversary and followed a revised course after an earlier plan to use Capitol grounds stalled.
