KRI Sriwijaya-100 readied as floating base in disasters
The 180-meter, 12,000-ton ship can operate helicopters and drones for logistics, evacuations and medical missions.
The government is preparing KRI Sriwijaya-100 as a floating base for disaster response missions and military operations other than war in Indonesia. The ship is positioned to reach isolated areas when land access is cut off, while supporting logistics deliveries and sea-based rescue operations. According to the Ministry of Defense, KRI Sriwijaya-100 is about 180 meters long and weighs 12.000 tons. Its deck is designed to be large enough to operate various types of helicopters and unmanned aircraft directly from the middle of the sea. Its functions include large-scale aid deliveries, casualty evacuation, medical services and emergency response in hard-to-reach areas. Brigjen Rico Sirait said maintenance and modifications to the ship also involve the domestic defense industry to strengthen national weapons system self-reliance.
