KPK detains Sukoharjo regent and 4 others in extortion case
Etik Suryani is suspected of extorting local officials, and all five were taken to Jakarta after initial questioning in Polresta Surakarta.
KPK detained Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani in a sting operation in the Soloraya area of Central Java on Thursday night (9/7). The anti-graft agency secured a total of five people, including Etik, in a case that is suspected to involve extortion of local officials within the Sukoharjo regency government. After initial questioning at Polresta Surakarta, Etik and four others were taken to Jakarta on Friday (10/7) for further examination. KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said KPK still has 1x24 hours to determine the legal status of the detained parties. KPK deputy chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed the operation, but did not yet detail the identities of the other people secured.
