KPK searches Denpasar Immigration Office in Silmy Karim case
The search broadens the probe into alleged KITAS-KITAP extortion that is said to have yielded Rp145,5 miliar in 2022-2026.
KPK searched the Class I TPI Denpasar Immigration Office in Bali on Friday (19/6) in an expansion of the case involving alleged extortion and gratuities in processing foreign nationals’ stay permits. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the search was still under way, so the seized evidence had not yet been disclosed. The case concerns KITAS and KITAP processing within the Directorate General of Immigration during 2022-2026. KPK earlier named eight suspects, including former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim, and detained them starting June 4. In the case, KPK suspects the defendants obtained Rp145,5 miliar in profits. The June 2-3 OTT also led to the seizure of assets worth about Rp17,5 miliar, including vehicles, bank accounts, crypto assets and foreign currency.
