KPK delays Yaqut detention after treatment for digestive illness

The former religious affairs minister’s detention was suspended as KPK moves ahead with transfer of the Rp622 billion additional hajj quota case.

KPK suspended the detention of former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas on Wednesday (24/6) after a doctor’s examination found he needed to be hospitalized at RS Polri Kramat Jati for a digestive tract disorder. KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said the step was taken to ensure the suspect’s basic rights were met, while investigators monitored Yaqut’s condition and continued the probe. In the alleged corruption case involving the 2023-2024 additional hajj quota, Yaqut and his special staff member, Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, had already received a 30-day extension of detention from early June. KPK is targeting the handover of the case involving Yaqut and Ishfah along with Ismail Adham and Asrul Azis Taba. BPK estimates the state loss in the case at Rp622 miliar.
