Kowani holds tempe declaration to UNESCO, 1,000 join walk
The push also featured tempe, sorghum and cassava festivals to link food heritage with UMKM and food security.
Kongres Wanita Indonesia (Kowani) held the National Declaration of Tempe Indonesia Goes to UNESCO at the Kowani office on Jalan Imam Bonjol in Central Jakarta on Sunday (9/8/2026), alongside a 10,000-step fun walk attended by more than 1,000 participants. The route started from the Kowani office to Bundaran Hotel Indonesia and then returned to the starting point. Kowani Chairwoman Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto said tempe needs to be strengthened as an Indonesian cultural asset with historical, social, economic and food value. Kowani also highlighted opportunities to diversify tempe made from soybeans, sorghum and various legumes. The event also featured the Tempe Festival, Nusantara Sorghum Festival, Nusantara Cassava Festival, a cooperative and UMKM exhibition, free health checks, nutrition education and stunting prevention.
