Komisi X approves naturalization of Baker and Vickery for Timnas
The citizenship proposals will next go to a DPR plenary session before the official WNI process can proceed.
Komisi X DPR RI approved a recommendation to grant Indonesian citizenship to two naturalized footballers, Mitchell Lee Baker and Luke Anthony Vickery, at a working meeting in Jakarta on Monday with Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir. The approval is the next step before the proposal is taken to a DPR plenary session. Komisi X attached several notes: athlete naturalization must be selective, based on strategic needs, use clear and transparent criteria, and be accompanied by development of local players and periodic evaluation. PSSI and Kemenpora were also asked to report on the results of the naturalization program and its impact on national football achievements. Baker now plays for Georgetown University, while Vickery represents Macarthur FC. Both are projected to strengthen Timnas Indonesia, with a debut target at Piala AFF 2026.
