Komisi III opens graft law revision after asset bill

DPR says the definition of corruption and under-invoicing could also be reviewed once the asset seizure bill is completed this year.

Komisi III DPR is opening the possibility of revising the Anti-Corruption Law after deliberations on the Asset Seizure Bill are completed. Deputy chairman Ahmad Sahroni said any changes must be reviewed with the government, academics, practitioners and legal experts to maintain legal certainty and avoid weakening anti-graft efforts. For now, the commission is still focused on the Asset Seizure Bill, which is targeted for completion by the end of the year. Momentum for revising the Anti-Corruption Law has grown after a study by the National Economic Council led by Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan was approved by President Prabowo Subianto. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra has also urged refining the definition of corruption so it aligns with UNCAC, the new Criminal Code and the new Criminal Procedure Code. Sahroni said under-invoicing practices should also be considered for inclusion in the talks.
