Khofifah urges 35th NU Congress to strengthen unity in Jombang
She said the Aug. 27-31 forum should also sharpen economic priorities for Nahdliyin communities through UMKM, cooperatives and vocational training.
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa urged the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress to become a venue to strengthen the organization’s cohesion and Muslim brotherhood in Jombang. Khofifah said the NU’s highest forum was not only a place to choose its leadership direction, but also a moment for reflection to formulate steps for facing increasingly complex challenges. She said NU needs to adapt to technological developments, the digital economy, climate change, the demographic dividend, education, employment and geopolitical dynamics without leaving Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah values. Khofifah also called for stronger economic empowerment for Nahdliyin communities through UMKM, cooperatives, vocational education, the sharia economy and productive sectors. The congress will be held Aug. 27-31, 2026 at Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas, Kabupaten Jombang, and will be opened by President Prabowo Subianto.
