Ketapang-Gilimanuk queues spur calls for more docks
Gapasdap says 56 licensed ships are ready, but existing docks can effectively handle only about 28 vessels per cycle.
Congestion and long vehicle queues on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk ferry crossing in recent days have triggered calls to speed up dock construction and port infrastructure. Gapasdap Chairman Khoiri Soetomo said the main problem is not a shortage of ships, but limited port capacity. According to him, about 56 licensed vessels are ready to serve the route, but the available docks can accommodate only about 28 ships operating effectively in one cycle. The queues have also been driven by a surge in logistics vehicles, buses and private cars during the school holiday period, suboptimal service for large vehicles, weather and sea currents, and limited buffer zones and access roads to the port. Gapasdap is urging construction of new docks, expansion of port capacity, optimization of Dermaga Bulusan, and additional vehicle holding areas.
