Kennedy Center board backs Trump name on facade after court order

What's next: Rep. Joyce Beatty and her lawyers signaled a new court fight over the vote and a separate two-year closure plan.

The Kennedy Center's board voted to place President Donald Trump's name on the building facade, reviving a legal fight over changes at the Washington performing arts institution. The proposal would make the facade read, "The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Restored and Renovated By President Donald J. Trump," and would rename the area outside the building the President Donald J. Trump Plaza. The board also approved closing most of the facility for two years for renovations. Rep. Joyce Beatty, an ex-officio board member whose lawsuit led a federal judge to order Trump's name removed, called the move an effort to evade the court's ruling. Judge Christopher Cooper had ruled that only Congress can change the center's name.
