Kemkomdigi urges public to double-check social media, AI answers

The government also wants digital platforms to be more transparent about AI use and how algorithms surface information.

Kemkomdigi is urging the public to verify information circulating on social media and answers produced by artificial intelligence tools. Marroli Jeni Indarto, director of institutional communication partnerships and public relations at Kemkomdigi, said the ease of searching for information through digital platforms and AI does not guarantee that the content received is always correct, so users need to verify it against credible sources. He cited media publications that have been verified by Dewan Pers as one trusted reference. Mediodecci Lustarini, secretary of the Directorate General for Digital Space Oversight at Kemkomdigi, said AI answers can help people understand information, but they still need to be checked, especially on government policy issues or accusations against certain parties. On 23 October, Kemkomdigi also asked electronic system operators to improve transparency in the use of AI and algorithm management.
