Kementerian Kebudayaan prepares reconstruction of Rumah Proklamasi
The Pegangsaan Timur 56 site will become Museum Proklamasi and be linked with two monuments in Taman Proklamasi.
Kementerian Kebudayaan is preparing to reconstruct Rumah Proklamasi on Jalan Pegangsaan Timur No. 56, Jakarta Pusat, to serve as a center for history and education. The house where Soekarno, accompanied by Mohammad Hatta, read the Proklamasi text on 17 Agustus 1945 was demolished in the 1960s, and the site is now Taman Proklamasi. The reconstruction plan is aimed at creating a replica of the building facing Monumen Proklamasi Soekarno-Hatta and Monumen Petir, forming a single historical narrative. Fadli Zon said the planning will involve architects, historians, archaeologists and figures familiar with the house's history. The ministry will also coordinate with Kementerian Sekretariat Negara and Pemerintah Provinsi DKI Jakarta on the land status.
