Kemenkop targets cooperative-owned cooking oil mill by 2027

The plan would extend palm oil downstream processing from CPO plants to sales through tens of thousands of Koperasi Merah Putih outlets.

The Ministry of Cooperatives aims for the national cooperative movement to own its own cooking oil refinery by 2027 to strengthen downstream palm oil processing and add value for farmers. At the National Meeting of Indonesian Oil Palm Farmers in Jakarta, Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono urged palm oil cooperatives to expand from plantations into processing, including building crude palm oil (CPO) plants and cooking oil refineries. He cited a cooperative in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra, that already operates a CPO plant with a capacity of 60 tons per hour. Cooking oil produced by cooperatives is later planned to be marketed through the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih network. Kemenkop also urged Apkasindo to partner with PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara under a plasma scheme to manage land cleared by the Satgas Penertiban Kawasan Hutan.
