Kemenkes probe finds Lampung intern doctor died of illness

The joint team found no bullying, overtime, or barriers to medical leave; the diagnosis was kept private at the family's request.

The Ministry of Health concluded that dr. Muhammad Zulfikar Drakel, a participant in the Indonesian Doctor Internship Program in Lampung Timur, died of a disease described as sensitive, not from bullying or an excessive workload. The finding came from a joint investigation by Kemenkes, PB IDI, PAPDI, Komite Internsip Kedokteran, Kolegium Bedah, and other elements, with local police involved. According to the team, Zulfikar was on a ward rotation at RSUD KH Ahmad Hanafiah at the time, working 08.00-14.00, below the 40-hour weekly limit. The team also found no intimidation, obstacles to medical leave, or barriers to rest while he was under treatment. Kemenkes did not disclose the diagnosis because of medical confidentiality and the family's request. The case drew public attention to protections for medical interns and internship participants.
