Kemenhut posts no-entry signs on ex-fire land in Kalteng
Frozen concession areas will face tighter monitoring to curb illegal logging and support ecosystem recovery.
The Ministry of Forestry has posted warning signs and bans on unauthorized activity in several areas scorched by forest and land fires in Kalimantan Tengah. The signs were installed at a number of sites belonging to holders of Perizinan Berusaha Pemanfaatan Hutan who had previously been sanctioned, from permit freezes to obligations to restore forest ecosystems. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said the move is meant to clarify the status of the areas and prevent illegal activity in post-fire zones that are vulnerable to exploitation, including illegal logging. He added that limited forest police resources must not reduce oversight, which he said should be more tactical by mapping high-risk areas. Raja Juli also said President Prabowo Subianto has decided to increase forest police personnel to 70 ribu orang.
