Kemendagri trains public relations officers to fight AI disinformation

Next, Kemendagri is preparing workshops on communication audits and crisis management, plus strategy guides for regional governments.

The Ministry of Home Affairs held a technical guidance session on drafting communication strategies for Functional Public Relations Officers on July 29-31, 2026, in Jakarta to strengthen public relations personnel in facing the flow of disinformation in the AI era and on social media. Anwar Harun Damanik, a special staff member to the minister for apparatus and public services at Kemendagri, said public relations personnel are expected to deliver information that is fast, accurate, transparent and easy to understand without sacrificing the truth. At the closing session, Benni Irwan, head of Kemendagri's public information center, stressed the importance of consolidating public relations officers so that messaging from the central government and regional governments remains aligned. Kemendagri is also preparing follow-up measures in the form of workshops on communication audits, crisis management, drafting communication strategy guidelines, and efforts to establish an association of public relations officers within Kemendagri.
