Kemenbud stages nationwide cleanup at heritage sites
The coordinated effort included Benteng Kalamata in Ternate and aimed to build public awareness of preserving historical heritage.
The Ministry of Culture held a simultaneous cleanup at cultural heritage sites across Indonesia on Saturday, October 17, 2026. In Ternate, North Maluku, employees of the North Maluku Cultural Preservation Center cleaned the Benteng Kalamata area by sweeping the grounds and hauling away trash. The activity aimed to keep heritage areas clean while building public awareness of the importance of caring for historical heritage. Republika wrote that Benteng Kalamata was designated a national cultural heritage site under a decree dated January 12, 1999. The effort underscored that preservation involves not only the buildings themselves, but also the surrounding environment so historic sites remain maintained for future generations.
