Kemenag drafts child-friendly pesantren rules to curb abuse
Draft 2026 rules are due for discussion in Jakarta on 10–11 August with KPAI, Bareskrim Polri, MUI, NU and Muhammadiyah.
Kementerian Agama is drafting the 2026 Child-Friendly Pesantren Guidelines to strengthen efforts to prevent violence and protect santri in pesantren environments. The draft will be discussed in Jakarta on 10–11 August 2026 with participation from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, and Bareskrim Polri. Also attending are Majelis Masyayikh, Rabithah Ma’ahid Islamiyah Nahdlatul Ulama, the Pesantren Development Institute of PP Muhammadiyah, and the Pesantren Commission of Majelis Ulama Indonesia. Kemenag Pesantren Director Basnang Said said the guidelines are aimed not only at responding when cases emerge, but also at identifying risks, preventing violence and preparing protection mechanisms for santri.
